(Length: 120 hours)

During their first year of training, students spend one day a week for 15 weeks on a practicum where they observe all the duties of a childhood educator. In collaboration with the cooperating educator, without being in charge of the group, students plan and experiment with activities that foster children's overall development, create a safe environment, organize and coordinate short activities related to hygiene, diet and sleep, observe the children in order to monitor their development and interests and perform all other related duties. The practicum enhances students' awareness of certain basic required notions and skills. However, its primary function is to put students in a work situation where they have to demonstrate their skills and provide support to the cooperating educator, as well as to confirm their professional direction.
