Dieppe, June 29, 2018 – Collège communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick (CCNB) and Collège de l’Île renewed their partnership agreement which provides for the delivery of the practical nursing program in French, on Prince Edward Island.
“We are very pleased to renew this agreement with Collège de l’Île,” said Liane Roy, CCNB chief executive officer. “The lack of nursing staff able to offer services in French is a tremendous problem which affects all our provinces. We will contribute significantly to the well-being of our communities by training more French-speaking healthcare professionals who will work in hospitals and care facilities.”
The practical nursing program prepares students to acquire the knowledge and skills to provide nursing care to a varied clientele. During the two years of training, theory courses, lab exercises and clinical practicums allow students to learn the care techniques used in institutions. Students who take this program in French in Prince Edward Island receive two diplomas, one from Collège de l’Île and one from CCNB.
“We welcome the renewal of our partnership with CCNB to deliver this program which has become a flagship program for us,” highlighted Donald DesRoches, Collège de l’Île president. “Three student cohorts have received their practical nursing diplomas over the last six years. We are proud to contribute in this very direct way to the offer of French language health services in our province.”
Both colleges are part of the Consortium national de formation en santé (CNFS), a group of 11 universities and colleges that offer French language education in various health disciplines, as well as regional partners that facilitate access to these training programs across the country.
Collège de l’Île will welcome its fourth practical nursing cohort beginning in September 2018.
